Latest Phase of Restoration of Llay Miners Institute
The refurbishment of the south elevation to the Llay Miners Welfare Institute has been completed and successfully handed over to the Trustees.  This is the 4th Stage of a rolling programme of refurbishment for this fine Grade 2 Listed Building, built in 1929 and the last Miners Institute in North Wales still open.  For details and pictures, please click here.

AGa ´Girlies` raise £1,335 for Cancer Research
Ainsley Gommon Architects ´Girlies`, Leonie Wainwright, Sarah Davies, Rachel Williams, Raquel Feliciano, succesfully completed the 5K charity run ´Race for Life` in Liverpool's Sefton Park and, in so doing, raised £1,335 for Cancer Research.  For details and pictures, please click here.

Maplewood officially opened for Moorlands Housing
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Roger West officially opened the town's flagship £3m Maplewood development at a special ceremony last week.  The project was developed by Moorlands Housing, part of the Harvest Housing Group.  For more about the project and this award, please click here.

Green Apple Award for Learning Pathway Centre

Glyntaff Revisited
On 14 May 2010, Ainsley Gommon staff members revisited Glyntaff Farm Estate, Pontypridd for the Glyntaff Tenants & Residents Association's (GTRA's) celebration of 30 years of achievements on the estate and 21 years since Glyntaff’s Estate Transfer and improvement works started.  For details and pictures click here.

Rachel passes her Part 3 in Professional Practice
Congratulations to Rachel Clegg on passing her RIBA Part 3 Examination in Professional Practice. Rachel has been undertaking her professional practice experience at Ainsley Gommon Architects and studying hard for her examination. We are delighted with her success. Well done Rachel!

Four Projects Win Building Excellence Awards
At this year’s LABC Cymru Awards Ainsley Gommon Architects were successful in winning no less than four regional awards for building excellence.  Not only did our scheme of 32 new homes for Charter Housing Association in Newport, South Wales win an award, but three projects won affordable housing awards in Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham.  Gorwel Newydd for Pennaf Housing, a 60 bed Extra Care scheme in Rhyl, won the category of Best Affordable Scheme in North Wales..  For details and pictures of all 4 projects here.

Maplewood development completed ahead of schedule
The Maplewood scheme started on site January 2009 and was completed January 2010, well ahead of schedule. The contract ran very smoothly, with targets being met ahead of program and we, the client and contractor are very pleased with the result.  The project consists of 12no. houses and 29no. apartments, which have been developed by Moorlands Housing Association with the contractor Cruden Construction.  The project is designed for the Code for Sustainable Homes level 3, using timber frame construction.  For details and pictures click here.

Ainsley Gommon Architects Celebrate Thirty Years
Ainsley Gommon Architects celebrated 30 years in practice at an event held on 17 November 2009 at ‘milkandsugar’ in Liverpool.  Attended by over 100 guests the event also marked the formal opening of their exhibition ‘Architecture 1979 – 2009 : People and Place’.  For details and pictures click here.

David Ainsley Retires
Ainsley Gommon Architects staff and their families, gathered in Birkenhead on 11 September to wish David Ainsley well as he retires from directorship of the practice. David was a founding partner of Innes Wilkin Ainsley Gommon in 1979, which later became Ainsley Gommon Wood, before we incorporated as the present Ainsley Gommon Architects. We are celebrating these 30 years of achievement and looking forward to the next 30, in an exhibition at 'milkandsugar', Wood Street, Liverpool from 16 November to 23 December 2009.

Fairtrade fundraiser for Liverpool Habitat for Humanity
Ainsley Gommon hosted a Fairtrade Tea & Coffee Morning on 2 July 2009 to support local charity, Liverpool Habitat for Humanity and are grateful for the clients and friends that joined us on their way to work and helped us raise £180 in very short space of time.  For more details  here.

ISO 14001 Accreditation
Ainsley Gommon Architects has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation for our Environmental Management Systems.  We believe in having our own good environmental house keeping standards in place, before advising clients on the significance of adopting sustainable practice and designing for climate change.  To read more here.

Conversion of Textile Mill, Holywell
Flintshire County Council recently celebrated completion of the first phase of the Holywell Townscape Heritage Initiative to restore several heritage sites in the town.  Phase two is well advanced, including the restoration and conversion of the former Textile Mill to a Community Arts and Craft Centre.  For details click here.

Jump Ship Rat U-51 Launched
A Liverpool European Capital of Culture commission, Jump Ship Rat's U-51 boat was launched on the Albert Dock at the weekend.  U-51 is a 40 metre long mobile floating waterfall and you can see it at Liverpool Albert and Salthouse at weekend afternoons and Thursday evenings until the end of October 2008.  To see a video of its first outing, please click here.

Refurbishment of Listed Orangery, Swansea University
The Orangery at the Grade 2 Listed Singleton Abbey had been closed for health and safety reasons following the discovery of asbestos, but has now been refurbished and brought back into use as a welcoming student admissions office fo the University.  To read more about this project, please click here.

New Bridge Link Handed over to School
A new bridge link to connect two wings of existing accommodation at this school for children with special needs at West Kirby, Wirral.  The snaking route, angled structure and abstract glazing arrangement combine to provide interest for users of the bridge.

Official Opening of Pennaf Offices
The new offices for Pennaf Housing Group were officially opened on 19 March 2008 by the Right Reverend John Davies, Bishop of St. Asaph.  The offices were procured under a Design & Build contract with North Wales based developer Anwyl Construction.  For details and images of the project...click here.

Planning Consent for Maplewood
Ainsley Gommon have been working for Moorlands Housing through the Frontis Framework, with SDA Consulting, Atkinson Peck and GB Building Solutions, on proposals to redevelop the site of an existing sheltered housing project, Maplewood Court in Macclesfield.  Planning Consent was granted on 3rd March 2008.  For details and images of the project...click here.
